Human Rights

Conducting the Human Rights Universal Period Review 2015 (UPR) related activities were successfully completed to reflect the human rights situation of excluded and marginalized communities and submit in United Nations Human Rights Council. The project has carried out six regional consultations with the members of marginalized and excluded groups in four development regions (Biratnagar, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Dhangadi) and six thematic and one national consultation meetings at Kathmandu during the project period. In the consultations at regional and national level, nearly 682 representatives of 68 organizations attended and provided valuable information for this submission.

The civil society organizations of Nepal from marginalized and excluded groups were constructively engaged to prepare the joint UPR report of civil society and submitted to the human rights council prior to six months of holding the session in Geneva. The marginalized groups’ joint submission presents implementation status of UPR 2011 recommendations, and highlights major concerns regarding the human rights situation of the various vulnerable groups. The key issues addressed in this report are the economic, social and cultural rights of minorities, indigenous communities and other marginalized and excluded groups. JUP-Nepal as Secretariat of Durban Review Follow-up Committee (DRCFC) prepared a Marginalized Groups’ Joint Submission to the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Nepal.
